Project Description

This initiative integrates solar PV system deployment with competency-based vocational training to address Somalia’s dual challenges of limited clean energy access and high youth unemployment. Operating under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system, the project trains young people in solar design, installation, and maintenance through hands-on, practical learning.

Currently in its early stage (1–3 years of operation), the project is testing and refining training modules through pilot installations for households, small businesses, and community institutions. A core team of 2–5 members leads implementation, supported by institutional backing from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Revenue Model: Donations, prizes, and grants, with some cost recovery through client service fees from small-scale installations.
Expenses: Training materials, solar equipment (panels, inverters, batteries), tools, transportation, and operational coordination.
Challenges: Limited financial resources, high equipment costs, logistical constraints, gaps in technical awareness, and the need for continuous curriculum updates.
Vision: To scale nationally, strengthening the TVET system by integrating solar training across Somalia. The project aims to create a sustainable ecosystem where trained youth become technicians or entrepreneurs, contributing to energy access, job creation, and climate resilience.

Inspired by the founder’s experience as a Master Trainer in Renewable Energy, this initiative bridges the gap between clean energy access and youth empowerment—building a skilled workforce while advancing SDG 7 and supporting Somalia’s transition toward a greener economy.
