Project Description

Polus Brasil is a for-profit climate-tech company transforming refrigeration systems into efficient, data-driven energy assets. Refrigeration accounts for significant global electricity consumption and remains highly inefficient in emerging markets, directly impacting emissions, operational costs, and food security. Polus develops IoT-based monitoring and intelligent control systems that optimize compressors, defrost cycles, and temperature management in real time—reducing energy waste, extending equipment lifespan, and improving reliability.

Currently in its growth stage with over 5 years of operation and a core team of 6–10 members, Polus manages 50,000+ cubic meters of refrigerated space across 130 paying clients in 15 Brazilian states. The company has already avoided 300+ tons of CO₂ emissions and reduced over 50,000 kWh of electricity consumption.

Revenue Model: Recurring revenue through installation fees and monthly B2B service subscriptions.
Expenses: Hardware manufacturing, software development, cloud infrastructure, technical salaries, installation, maintenance, and sales.
Challenges: Scaling hardware deployment with quality control, market education on energy efficiency value, long B2B sales cycles, integration with legacy systems, and access to growth capital.
Vision: To scale across Latin America and other emerging markets, positioning refrigeration efficiency as a strategic pillar of the global energy transition. The company plans to enhance its technology through predictive analytics, AI-driven optimization, and integration with renewable energy systems.

Inspired by the founder’s engineering background and commitment to youth leadership, Polus integrates young engineers into technical implementation and collaborates with vocational technicians to strengthen local workforce capacity—contributing directly to SDG7 while building scalable climate solutions in emerging economies.
