Project Description

CEYI Flood Preparedness Mobile App is a youth-led climate resilience initiative developing a multilingual mobile application to help communities in Afghanistan prepare for, respond to, and recover from flash floods and urban flooding. Currently in the early development stage, the project combines flood forecasting data with local knowledge and community networks to deliver hyper-localized early warnings and practical safety guidance.

Designed for both rural and urban users, the application provides real-time alerts, evacuation guidance, flood survival information, and recovery support in Dari and Pashto, using simple visuals, videos, and infographics accessible to low-literacy audiences. Building on previous climate and energy literacy trainings that reached more than 500 community members, the project seeks to strengthen local preparedness and reduce disaster-related risks in some of Afghanistan’s most vulnerable communities.

Impact: Enhances disaster preparedness, climate resilience, community awareness, and youth engagement in climate action. The initiative contributes to SDGs 11, 13, and 17 while promoting community resilience through climate and energy literacy.

Revenue Model: Grants, donations, prizes, community support, and future partnerships with government agencies and international organizations.

Expenses: Mobile application development, cloud hosting, data integration, multimedia content production, community workshops, youth mobilization, user training, and project administration.

Challenges: Limited funding, operating in a conflict-affected environment, ensuring reliable data access, low digital literacy levels, and scaling climate resilience tools across geographically dispersed communities.

Vision: To establish the platform as Afghanistan’s leading community-based climate resilience tool, expanding from the Kabul pilot to nationwide coverage, reaching over 50,000 users, training thousands of youth leaders, and creating a sustainable, Afghan-led model for disaster preparedness and climate adaptation.

Development Stage: Early Development.
