BIOX Energy Solutions is a renewable energy startup producing improved cook stoves and smokeless cooking fuels from agricultural residues for low-income Nigerians. Its flagship product, BIOX 2.0, is a solar-powered biomass stove equipped with sensors and a smoke filtering system that saves energy, filters smoke, and transmits carbon data to credit platforms in real time—making it the only biomass stove in Africa that shares carbon credit income directly with users. Each user earns an estimated $100 annually while enjoying a smoke-free cooking experience.
Currently in its growth stage with 1–3 years of operation and a core team of 2–5 members, BIOX operates as a for-profit enterprise. Production cost per unit is $50, sold at $80, with $5,000 enabling 100 units to be produced and sold within one month, generating approximately $3,000 profit.
Revenue Model: Sales to individuals and private organizations, donations, prizes, and grants.
Expenses: Raw materials, labor, and logistics—covered through product sales and grants.
Challenges: Lack of funding for mass production equipment, limited mobility for technical support in villages, and absence of carbon regulatory organizations in Nigeria for easy project evaluation and approval.
Vision: To help 10,000 poor Nigerians reduce smoke inhalation from firewood by 2030, with plans to replicate factories in three other Nigerian states, selling to at least 3,000 people per month.
Inspired by the founder’s personal experience growing up in a family reliant on firewood, BIOX transforms agricultural waste into clean energy while improving health, reducing emissions, and creating economic value for vulnerable communities.
