Project Description

Akuai Energy aims to solve two challenges in Colombia’s energy transition: low adoption of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies, and a lack of public awareness about responsible energy consumption. These slow the uptake of clean energy solutions and electric mobility, particularly outside major urban areas, and limit opportunities to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions. The company’s solution is to design and implement renewable energy, energy efficiency and electric mobility projects for homes and businesses. Services include developing solar PV systems, installing EV charging stations and delivering energy efficiency solutions. The project puts an emphasis on education aiming to help households, businesses and communities to adopt more sustainable energy consumption habits along the new technologies.

Akuai Energy is an established company operating for more than 5 years with 2-5 workers that finances its operations through revenue from renewable energy, energy efficiency and EV charging projects. Major costs include staff salaries and project implementation expenses, making continued business growth essential to expanding its impact. Key challenges include improving price competitiveness, securing reliable local suppliers of high-quality equipment, and reducing project delivery times. These are holding the company back from increasing its market share, improving operational efficiency and expanding the range of clean energy services. By 2030, Akuai Energy aims to develop at least two community renewable energy projects in rural Chocó, using locally available resources (e.g. solar, wind, hydro or biomas)s. TPlan are in place to train at least 20 local residents to operate and maintain these systems and expand Colombia’s EV charging network through partnerships with restaurants and hotels.
