New Gen Accelerator Event

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), supported by the United Arab

Emirates, announced three recipients of the newly established IRENA NewGen Rising Stars Award. IRENA, in collaboration with Social Alpha and the Enel Foundation launched the NewGen Renewable Energy Accelerator (NewGen) Programme which seeks to empower youth to be active participants in the energy transition by providing them with the tools, knowledge and support needed to develop and implement their ideas. 

The IRENA NewGen Award selected the 8 best solutions from the accelerator programme and granted those entrepreneurs an opportunity to pitch their ideas in front of potential investors and investment experts. IRENA and its guest panel of judges then ultimately selected three winners from Nigeria, United States of America, Romania, India, Argentina, China, and Sri Lanka.

Among the winners is Augusto Diaz, Head of Projects, HD Photovoltaics who is a member of the SDG7 youth constituency and an active youth voice making meaningful contributions to the global energy transition. Big Congratulations to all the winners.

Youth Networking at COP 28

Youth networking played a crucial role at COP28 in amplifying young voices in climate action, particularly in energy transition, policy advocacy, and sustainable solutions.

The event provided a platform for young leaders to connect, collaborate, and influence global climate discussions.

Decarbonising the planet: Youth’s contributions to the energy transition

This event showcased how youth are actioning decarbonization through innovative projects and solutions in both their work and volunteering. The pathways of decarbonizing the energy sector and its challenges will also be explored to identify the key barriers to accelerating the energy transition as seen by the youth.
