Vital Green Jobs is a youth-led renewable energy workforce development initiative in Uganda that equips young people aged 18-35 with practical skills and employment opportunities in the clean energy sector. Currently in the testing and prototyping stage and operating for less than 12 months, the project focuses on preparing youth for careers in solar energy through hands-on training, mentorship, and industry partnerships.

Implemented by the Vital Crest Foundation, the initiative connects young people directly with solar companies and vocational institutions, enabling participants to gain practical experience in solar installation, maintenance, sales, and renewable energy entrepreneurship. Special emphasis is placed on supporting young women and youth from underserved backgrounds who may have limited access to higher education and formal employment opportunities.

Impact: Strengthens youth employment, renewable energy skills development, clean energy adoption, and entrepreneurship, contributing to SDGs 4, 7, 8, and 13.

Revenue Model: Sales to individuals, grants, donations, prizes, partnerships, and future training-related service agreements.

Expenses: Training materials, trainer facilitation, participant transport support, mentorship activities, programme coordination, outreach, monitoring, and administration.

Challenges: Limited funding to support trainees, ensuring strong industry partnerships, increasing awareness of renewable energy career opportunities, and encouraging greater participation of young women in technical energy fields.

Vision: To build a skilled youth workforce that supports the growth of renewable energy across Uganda and the region. The initiative aims to reach more than 300 young people within three years, expand partnerships with industry and vocational institutions, and support graduates in securing employment, apprenticeships, and clean energy business opportunities.
