Aylluq Q’anchaynin (Community Energy) is a youth-led clean energy initiative working with Indigenous and multicultural communities in the Peruvian Amazon to improve energy access, connectivity, and community self-sufficiency. Operating for 3-5 years, the project was created to address the lack of electricity, internet access, and basic services in Alto Mishiagua, a remote community composed of Yine, Matsiguenka, Asháninka, and Quechua families.
Since its launch, the initiative has achieved major milestones, including the installation of satellite internet in 2023 and the deployment of 40 solar photovoltaic systems in 2025, ensuring that every household in the community has access to clean energy. By combining technology, local participation, and youth leadership, the project promotes energy sovereignty and strengthens community resilience in one of Peru’s most isolated regions.
Impact: Expands clean energy access, digital connectivity, Indigenous empowerment, education opportunities, and community resilience, contributing to SDGs 7, 9, 10, 13, and 17.
Revenue Model: Donations, grants, prizes, and support from partner organizations focused on social impact and renewable energy development.
Expenses: Solar equipment, batteries, installation materials, transportation and river logistics, technical implementation, training activities, and community engagement.
Challenges: Difficult logistics due to geographic isolation, long-term system maintenance, local technical capacity building, and securing sustainable funding for expansion.
Vision: To establish Alto Mishiagua as a model of energy and technological sovereignty in the Amazon, expanding clean energy and connectivity solutions to neighboring communities while creating a network of self-managed solar-powered communities across the region.
Development Stage: Growth stage, with operational solar energy and connectivity systems and plans for regional replication.
