From Training to Action is a youth-led initiative scaling renewable energy literacy across Italy by building on the successful Italy–IRENA I-ACT Peer Educators programme. Following the delivery of the first national kick-off workshop engaging 40 young participants, the project now aims to systematize and replicate the model at regional and local levels, reaching a broader audience of students, young professionals, and public administration representatives. The interactive, practice-oriented workshops combine climate science, energy systems, policy frameworks, just transition principles, and youth participation—encouraging participants to question, debate, and design local action pathways.
The initiative’s strength lies in its multiplier effect: by strengthening energy literacy and confidence, young people become advocates and multipliers within their own communities. Currently in operation for less than 12 months with a core team of 6–10 members, the project is funded through institutional support (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNDP Rome Centre), with future events seeking local sponsorships.
Expenses: Travel, logistics, workshop materials, and coordination.
Challenges: Making energy topics feel relevant and concrete to young people, avoiding oversimplification, and coordinating with universities, youth groups, and public institutions across regions.
Vision: To transform workshops into a structured regional programme on youth energy literacy, creating continuity through follow-up meetings, partnerships, and collaboration with youth networks. With support from the SDG7 Youth Constituency, the project aims to integrate international perspectives and best practices, strengthening its credibility and impact.
Inspired by the gap between Puglia’s high renewable energy production and low youth awareness, the project empowers young people not just as beneficiaries but as informed advocates driving the energy transition.
